Aligning and distributing pages

You can use the Align palette to align and distribute pages, and context menu commands provide equivalent functions.

Note: When you "align to parent," the parent is a geometrical dominant, not a logical one as it is when you are considering a design as a hierarchy of family relationships. The geometrical parent is the entire design view, or it is the group if the pages you are aligning are in a group.

To align a page with its geometrical parent:

1 Select the page. If it is in a group, its parent is the group. Otherwise its parent is the design view itself.

2 Do one of the following:

  • Click one of the icons in the Align to Parent section of the Align palette.
  • Choose a type of alignment from the Align to Parent submenu of the context menu: left, center, right, top, middle, or bottom.

  • To align pages with one another:

1 Select two or more pages.

2 Do one of the following:

  • Click one of the icons in the Align to Object section of the Align palette.
  • Choose a type of alignment from the Align to Object submenu of the context menu: left, center, right, top, middle, or bottom.

  • To distribute pages or spacing:

1 Select three or more pages.

2 Do one of the following:

  • Click one of the icons in the Distribute Objects section of the Align palette. Or choose an item from the Distribute Objects submenu of the context menu: left, center, right, top, middle, or bottom.
  • Click one of the icons in the Distribute Spacing section of the Align palette. Or choose an item from the Distribute Spacing submenu of the context menu: horizontally, vertically, or diagonally.
